Community Update 8-11-20: Virtual Town Halls
Reopening virtual town halls

East Rochester families,

There have been many developments throughout the last few weeks, as the district continues to prepare for the start of the academic year. We are happy to say that on Friday, Governor Cuomo said all districts throughout New York State can open in September. As a reminder, the first day of instruction for students has been changed to Thursday, September 10.

As part of his announcement, the governor said he is requiring districts to offer three sessions to provide parents the opportunity to ask questions about reopening plans. ERUFSD will be holding three virtual town hall meetings to have an open discussion with parents and the community about our plans. The meetings will be held:

  • Thursday, August 13 at 12 p.m.

  • Thursday, August 13 at 7 p.m.

  • Friday, August 14 at 9 a.m.

I encourage all parents to pre-register for one of these sessions by clicking on the linked Google form. You’ll also be asked to submit a question or two and those will serve as our guides during these Zoom sessions. All participants will receive an email with the Zoom link the morning of your session. The meetings will be recorded and will be accessible on the district website for those who are not able to attend.

The governor is also requiring districts to provide details of their remote learning plans, plans for COVID-19 testing and contact tracing plans. The district has been developing details regarding our remote learning plan. When complete, direct links to each section of the ERUFSD Reopening Plan that addresses these topics will be added to the homepage of the district website.

Other recent additions to the district’s Reopening Plan include prohibiting masks with valves and requiring students and staff to wear masks for the first 45 minutes of the school day without a mask break, to allow for any necessary health checks.

As a reminder, you can find schedules for each school in the Reopening Plan section on our website.

Thank you and stay safe,

Richard G. Stutzman
Interim Superintendent
