ERAF logoThe East Rochester Alumni Foundation has been able to provide grant funding totaling more than $160,000 since it began awarding grants in 2006. The Foundation has been honored to assist with varied activities and programs to help our students prekindergarten to high school. Below is partial list of grants awarded for the 2018-19 school year. Some of the grants are new initiatives this year, while others are long-standing programs we have supported.

Roses for Veterans:  Funds were provided by the Foundation for the first time to purchase roses given to our veterans at the elementary school Veterans’ Day assembly last November.

Kids Rise Up:  Funds provided for snacks, journals, pens, and bookmarks for this new elementary school after school program which helps children develop self-growth strategies, empathy, and leadership skills.

Environmental Stewardship through Art:  Funds were given for a project shared between the high school Environmental and Art Clubs. Birds of prey from Wild Wings Educational Organization were brought to school for students to view at close range and sketch.

Author Visit:  Funds are being provided for children’s author/illustrator Henry Cole to visit our elementary school this May.

FITS (Fun in the Sun):  Once again last summer funds were provided for scholarships for children grades 1-7 who otherwise would not be able to attend this fun and educational program.

Welcome to ER Urban-Suburban Picnic:  Funds were given for a picnic for our new Urban-Suburban students and their families.  The event is part of an orientation where staff and students welcome our new families to our ER community.

Science Olympiad Teams:  Once again funds were provided for materials used in competitions for our middle school and high school teams.

Second Grade Smoke Detectors:  Funds were provided again this year for smoke detectors given to our second graders during their fall visit to the East Rochester Fire Department.  This partnership continues to be a way to remember Tyler Doohan who died in a fire, January 2014.

My Friend’s Closet:  Funds were given to help purchase clothing items and additional shoe and clothing racks.

ER Strong:  Funds were once again provided for snacks, journals, art supplies for regular meetings, as well as a trip to Nazareth College for a workshop “Voices of Experience.”  This group for grades 9-11 strives to assist girls through intervention and support to enable them to develop self-esteem and coping strategies.

Teens and Tots:  Funds were given for scholarships for children ages 2-3 for a special early childhood educational program.  Preschoolers and high school students work together through programs which support child growth, language development, and communication skills.

Student of the Month Backpacks:  Funds were once again used to purchase backpacks given to students grades 6-12 who have been selected for making positive contributions to the school community.

Thank you, Alumni Foundation, for your continued generosity and support.
