Student earns Fall Section V Best Award

ER student earns WROC's Fall 2019 Section V Best Award
ER student selected for Fall Section V Best AwardEast Rochester Senior High School junior, Hannah Griffith, has been selected as a recipient of WROC’s Fall 2019 Section V Best Awards, specifically the Best Fall Comeback Player Award. Hannah was recognized at the WROC studios on Tuesday evening, Dec. 17. The award show will be broadcast on Rochesterfirst.com on Saturday, Dec. 21 at 9 p.m.

Hannah was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma in 2017 at the age of 14. She has gone through several rounds of  chemotherapy treatments, radiation and a stem cell transplant and is currently undergoing immunotherapy following another stem cell transplant in the near future.

Hannah’s experiences and positive attitude earned her the award nomination by Varsity Field Hockey Coach Nicole Caruso.

“Hannah is a prime example of what a fighter looks like. She endures more than I will ever understand and it never stops her from putting forth her best effort at practices and games,” Caruso said. “Her confidence grew after each outstanding game that she had and she quickly became that reliable teammate that we could all count on to make the big defensive stops when we needed them the most. She never complains about the hardships she faces, but instead uses it as a driving force to be the best player, teammate, captain and person she can be.”

Hannah’s efforts this year earned her second team all-county, for a second year in a row, which is a huge accomplishment considering everything she has been through this past year.

Caruso added, “I know that she will tackle this next round of chemo the same way she did the last time and there is no doubt that you will see her on the field next season, for her senior year, playing her best field hockey.”

Congratulations to Hannah!
