East Rochester Union Free School District Announces New Athletic Director/Assistant Principal
Effective August 1, 2024, the East Rochester Union Free School District welcomes Teddy Tuggles as Senior High School Assistant Principal and Athletic Director. Most recently, Tuggles was Head Varsity Men’s Basketball Coach and a fifth-grade teacher at Gates Chili’s Paul Road Elementary School. Prior to that, he taught for nine years in the Rochester City School District. He holds master’s degrees in both educational administration and athletic administration from The College at Brockport, along with a Bachelor of Science degree in unified childhood education and special education from Keuka College.
“We look forward to Mr. Tuggles’ work on behalf of our student athletes and our greater school community as he brings strong leadership experiences and an effective communication style to our district,” said Jim Haugh, Superintendent of East Rochester schools.
“I am very excited to join the East Rochester community,” Tuggles said. “I am committed to continuing the rich tradition of excellence in athletics within the district and supporting academic achievement for all students.”
In addition to building an impressive resume as a teacher and an experienced coach, Tuggles has been an outstanding contributor to the educational community. His commitment to advancing student health, wellness and safety has included participation in school committees focused on restorative practices, positive behavioral interventions and support (PBIS), equity and inclusion, and many more.
As a coach, Tuggles’ emphasis on collaboration, teamwork and inclusiveness may be one reason varsity basketball team members at Gates Chili were honored with the Monroe County Section V Team Sportsmanship Award in 2024.
“We are confident that Mr. Tuggles will be a great asset to our students and to our school community,” said East Rochester MLA/HS Principal Alicia Shippy.
