About the Tournament

This year's tournament takes place at Lima Golf & Country Club, 7470 Chase Rd. Lima, NY 14485 on Friday, August 3, 2018.  The event, hosted by the East Rochester Alumni Foundation, is the organization's major source of the revenues used to underwrite "Excellence in Education" grants which benefit all students in the East Rochester School System.  In 2017 the SUAC generated over $20,000 for the Alumni Foundation.  Since its inception, this tournament has raised in excess of $125,000.00.

According to a member of the Tournament Committee, "This tournament is designed to appeal to players of all levels.  Our main purpose is to raise money for the Alumni Foundation and to bring lots of current and former East Rochester friends together for a fun day of golf and camaraderie."  To this end, we use a "Scramble" format where handicaps are not used and the foursome's score is determined by combining the best shots made by all team members on each hole.

Registration, a continental breakfast and a putting contest will begin at 7:15 AM.  The tournament kicks off with a shotgun start at 9:00 AM.  Since there will be over 200 players, the tournament will be played on both the Charleston Pines and Island Oaks courses.

The entry fee of $100.00 per person includes greens fees, a cart, a continental breakfast, a drink ticket, tee prize(s), a hot dog and beverage “at the turn”, a fabulous buffet lunch, loads of door prizes, free driving range privileges and a donation to the East Rochester Alumni Foundation. On the day of the tournament a Putting Contest, Mulligan purchases, Skins Games and a giant raffle are available to players for additional charges.  "Lunch Only" tickets are available for $25.00 per ticket.  We will attempt to accommodate foursome preferences with regard to course selection.  To avoid course and banquet delays, a maximum of 55 foursomes (220 players) will be registered.  Early registrants will be given priority in regard to course selection.

Foursomes who have registered and paid by June 30, 2018 will be entered in an "Early Bird" drawing.  The winning foursome will receive a full refund of their $400.00 registration fee.

Registration forms are available from the District Superintendent's Office at 222 Woodbine Ave., at the East Rochester Village Office at 317 Main St., at Lima Golf and Country Club or may be printed from the East Rochester Alumni Foundation's website which can be found at  You may also tear out the Entry Form which appears on the following page of this newsletter. For "Lunch Only" tickets, please contact Carl Tobin at or at 585 526-6120.

To preserve the nature of this event, at least one member of each foursome must be an E.R. Alum, a current or former E.R.  Teacher / staff member, a village resident, local business owner / operator, student or an Alumni Foundation Sponsor.

Early registration is encouraged and will be sincerely appreciated.

The Tournament Committee is looking for individuals who are interested in becoming members of the Tournament Committee or are interested in serving as pre or post-tournament volunteers on August 3rd.  If you wish to help, have a question, are interested in becoming an event sponsor or wish to discuss making a donation of any size, please contact Carl Tobin at or at (585) 526-6120.

This year’s Distinguished Alumni Award will be presented during the Awards Banquet which follows the tournament.  The 2018 recipient is Wayne Tesch, E.R. Class of 1965.  Wayne is a minister and has dedicated his life to helping others. Together with his wife, Diane, the Teschs founded Royal Family Kids Camps, Inc., (“RFK”) a nonprofit ministry that develops camps for abused and neglected children. In the years since its formation, RFK has served more than 95,000 children in 193 camps spread throughout the United States and 5 foreign countries. Their mission still continues as the organization strives to reach the more than 400,000 children in the U.S. foster care system, as well as children in the countries of Australia, Namibia, Chile, Kenya and South Africa.

We’ve changed a couple of rules this year….

1. Tee Shots:

     a. Every player’s tee ball must be used a minimum of (3) times except for players who are 75 years of age or older and are thus exempted from this requirement.

      b. Teams may voluntarily use one or more tee shots made by an age-exempted team member but is not required to do so.

2. Gold Tees:

      a. All players who are 75 years of age or older may use gold tees on par (4)’s and par (5)’s

      b. Players younger than 75 who regularly play from Gold Tees need to be identified, in advance of August 3rd, on the team’s registration form as “GTP” (a Gold Tee Player). Already registered… Team Captain please notify Carl Tobin at

       c. “GTP” players are allowed to play from gold tees on par 4 & par 5 holes but, unlike players who are 75 or older, they will not be exempted from the requirement regarding the use of (3) tee shots.
