The East Rochester Union Free School District is pleased to announce Alicia Shippy has been appointed as principal of East Rochester Middle Level Academy and High School. Ms. Shippy was formally appointed to the position at the special Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, June 7, 2022 and will begin her new role July 1, 2022.
Prior to joining East Rochester Union Free School District, Alicia served as the Burger Junior High School Assistant Principal for the Rush-Henrietta Central School District. During her time at Rush-Henrietta CSD, Alicia worked closely with students in grades 7-9, helped to support teachers across multiple disciplines, as well as facilitated Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports, social-emotional learning and diversity, equity and inclusivity work at Burger. She also played an integral role in the Instructional Support and Mental Health teams.
“Alicia understands the developmental needs of both middle and high school students and has demonstrated the ability to create and follow through with high expectations for academic performance, social and emotional development, proper behavior and citizenship in the secondary school setting,” says Superintendent Jim Haugh.
Alicia earned a bachelor's degree in Spanish and International Studies from SUNY Brockport, a Master’s degree in Secondary Education from Niagara University and her Certificate of Advanced Study from SUNY Oswego. Before becoming a building leader, Alicia was a high school Spanish teacher for 16 years, during which time she also served as a department leader for the World Languages and English as a New Language departments.
“I am excited and honored to begin working with the students, staff and families in East Rochester,” says Alicia. “I look forward to learning and growing together and to serving the entire East Rochester community.”
Alicia lives in Irondequoit, New York with her three dogs Tico, Zara and Rio and her cat, Javi. She enjoys spending time with family and friends in the Finger Lakes and traveling to new and interesting places around the world, and she is happy to join the East Rochester Schools community.
